Oh, Merlin. Darin couldn't believe that had just happened. It was official, he could never look Taylor in the eyes again. The bloke had been right of all things. It was just depressing. How could something so innocent backfire so horribly?
It was bloody cold out now. Darin's hands were getting damn near numb from the prolonged stay outside and the rain/snow combination but he sure as hell wasn't heading inside. There would be people inside, people that might have heard. This was sure to get around. Stupid blind date.
Muttering to himself and thinking that it was probably near dinner time anyway, he turned around and headed back down the street, intent on returning to the castle and playing the whole thing off when he was finally cornered.

She brightened as she saw a familiar figure coming down the street.
"Hey, Darin," she called brightly, and she couldn't help smirking at the memory of bumping into him with Bella.
He was going to be making that comment a lot in the near future, wasn't he? At any rate, Darin felt a rather uncalled for heat rise into his cheeks and he ducked his head as he hurried to walk past. "Dari. Lovely day out, yeah?"
Now if she'd just leave him be he could off to the castle and safety. Or warmth, at any rate. Safety was probably nonexistent now, or soon would be.
"How was your.. date?" she asked, just barely managing to not laugh hysterically. Though she couldn't keep from smirking a little.
Grabbing her elbow- and not letting himself think at all about doing the exact same thing to Bella earlier- he pulled Dari into a nearby alleyway. Darin checked to be sure no one was walking by or might have noticed their hasty retreat before turning back to Dari. "You didn't tell anyone did you?"
She stared at him as if he'd lost his mind as he steered her into the alley.
"What? Are you mad?" Was he serious, here? That was... ridiculous. "Why on earth would I do that?"
"Because it's-" Darin looked away briefly to sigh. "Because it's bloody embarrassing is why," he said, dropping her arm. Didn't everyone operate that way? Hmm, maybe it was a guy thing. "You didn't say anything then?" he wondered, still afraid to believe that this might not spread.
"Darin," she said, pausing after his name for a moment, "I've not even seen anyone since you two rushed off. But even if I had... you honestly think I'd try to embarrass you on purpose?"
It was probably the way this day was going, but she couldn't help feeling a little hurt about that.
Now he was confused. Whatever though because she hadn't said anything. He was still safe. Cold, kind of miserable, but safe. Yeah. Right.
Darin shook his head. "I didn't mean it like... I don't know. Not my best day, clearly." He ran a hand back through his hair but it only served to allow some of the dampness already there to penetrate into his scalp. Going back to the castle was probably still a good plan. "Nice weather we're having, huh?" he observed sarcastically.
She laughed at his comment about the weather and nodded, flashing him a small grin despite the days misery. "Yeah.. great weather. I think I'll go have a good flight around the pitch when I get back to the castle."
Yeah, right. Dari liked flying, but she wasn't quite that crazy.
"I was kidding," she told him, shaking her head a little incredulously. His date must have gone really badly if he'd actually thought she'd been serious.
Merlin, this day was totally shot. A strong wind found it's way down the alley and Darin turned his back to it, shoving his hands back into his coat pockets as he huddled against himself and blocked some of the gust from Dari. It was not his day.
"Bullocks it's cold," Darin muttered though his collar. He peeked up at Dari, now less than half a meter away and tried not to think of how nice a little body heat sounded right now. Had she had plans for this weekend? He didn't really remember. It wasn't like they talked all the time. "I'm about ready to head back to the castle. You want to come with?"
"Yeah.. that sounds good," she replied, shifting a little closer. Boys were convenient to have around in cold weather and Darin's body was nicely blocking out some of the cold.
He didn't move right away. It was hard to say why except it didn't seem quite so unbearable now. Searching Dari's eyes in the silence that followed, Darin smiled faintly. "What time is yours tomorrow?"
"And what makes you think I'm going on one?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. She schooled her expression into one of amusement, but internally she couldn't help wondering if he thought she was the sort of girl who needed help finding a date.
"It obviously wasn't today," he observed. "If it had gone well I wouldn't have run into you at all and if it had been bad you'd either be a lot more vocal than you are or you'd be avoiding the subject like the plague. Clearly," Darin declared, "your date is tomorrow."
"And don't even pretend you didn't sign up because if I did than you so did."
"Fine, you got me. Tris talked me into it. And it's tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure it'll be a disaster, but don't you dare rub it in, because if you do, I'll tell the whole school about your date with Belladonna."
Of course he had. Darin smiled and only half listened to the rest of what Dari was saying because it sounded a bit rushed and clearly she was just as embarrassed about having signed up for it as he was feeling now. No way was he letting this one go. He might even have to stalk around tomorrow just in the hope of catching a glimpse of her horrible date so they'd be even. that was, assuming he wasn't a laughing stock by this time tomorrow...
At any rate, her defensiveness was unwarranted because Darin wasn't in the mood to go on about the dating business anymore either. To put a good solid end to it he leaned in and kissed her, smothering the last few words as his free hand rose to touch her neck.
She reacted almost immediately to the kiss, letting her hands come to rest on his shoulders as she returned it.
Without even thinking about it, because really these things were much better when left to run their course as they pleased, Darin leaned into Dari and turned so she was pressed rather firmly against the wall behind them. Leverage or something, right? Her face was warm under his hand and against his lips and that was all Darin really cared about right now. There was a pleasant pressure of body against body that suggested heat and so many comfortable things that Darin would rather think about now than how miserable today had been and- frankly- how cold he was getting after wandering around outside for the last half hour.
Distraction was a beautiful thing and especially when it came in the form of a boy Dari had always really, really enjoyed snogging. A moment ago, going back to the castle had seemed a brilliant idea, but now she was quite content to stay where they were.
Dari's squeal made him smile against her lips and Darin drove both hands into her hair for a moment, pulling her closer as the kiss deepened. Much, much better. Warm though it was, his hands weren't content to stay in one spot and after a moment Darin let them roam freely. He gripped this curve and tugged at this patch of coat just to keep her close and soon he'd forgotten all about the snow falling around them.
Her hands gripped at his coat as she tried to press herself closer. She cursed inwardly at how their coats seemed to get in the way of being as close as she wanted to be right now.
"Mmmmm," Dari practically hummed as her lips worked against his. She was suddenly very, very glad she had run into him just now. Her day definitely seemed to be looking up.
There was a soft moan as he nibbled at her lip and her arms tightened around him just a bit more. "Mmmmmm." It had definitely been too long, even, since Dari had gotten much action. Certainly too long since she'd done this sort of thing with him. The boy should go on bad dates mroe often if this was always to be the result.
Darin made himself pull back, one hand tangled in her hair and the other wrapped around her waist and holding Dari loosely in place. "So," he swallowed, watching her eyes as his breathing evened out. "We could probably...take this somewhere else?"
'Yes.. we should.." And she couldn't resist kissing him again for just a moment.. "go elsewhere. Warm elsewhere." ANother kiss. "Close elsewhere," she ammended, thinking that closer was better, because she was anxious to get back to what they'd been doing.
His arms reluctantly slid away until his only contact was one hand holding hers. Clearly, this was not enough and the somewhere warm would have to be very near indeed. Was there a back door to this building they'd been leaning on? A storeroom they could borrow for a few minutes, perhaps? Pulling Dari along, Darin headed off in search of a useful door.
She kept her eye out, too, gesturing at a closed door up ahead. "I wonder where that leads?"
Turning Dari against yet another wall, Darin pressed into her and resumed their delayed snog. Much, much better. Though they were tingling a bit from the sudden change of temperature, Darin's hands started working their way down Dari's coat to get it undone and allow him more access to things.
She deepened this kiss with a groan as Darin pressed into her and she couldn't help smirking when he went so quickly for her coat. Suddenly she was very, very glad to have run into him. This was just the sort of thing she needed.
He grinned against the kiss as the material went satisfyingly slack and turned to bring Dari with him toward a more level surface; namely, the floor.
As long as the kissing and touching and all of that didn't stop anytime soon, she was definitely happy.
"Merlin," she muttered, pushing and pulling at his shirt, determined to get that off or at least out of the way so she could touch him, so she could feel him.
He let his lower body press into hers again and groaned through a smile. Definitely too long. He'd missed this. "That working for you?" he teased, kissing along her jawline to suck on the other side of Dari's neck.
Succeeding at last in her quest to rid him of his shirt, she pushed it over his shoulders and ran her hands over his chest, licking her lips a bit in anticipation.
This? Was just what she needed right now.
He tugged at her waistband, a silent question of whether they could proceed down this very nice path they seemed to be on.
The answer to Darin's silent question was definitely a yes. Dari returned his kisses with just as much fervor. If it was cool in the storeroom, she wasn't in a position to notice. It felt plenty warm to her and she groaned softly as she pressed herself against him.
Darin worked with the fastening of Dari's pants as well as he could with one hand, which given all the practice he'd had could have been far clumsier than it was, and soon he had them properly undone. His hand slid down the open front, teasing for a moment before pushing them down away from her hips and getting serious.
"Guh." She groaned again as she dragged her lips from his to trail heated kisses over his jaw and back to nibble on his earlobe.
This had really been their most brilliant idea ever.
